JOY Group and Stillness and Sharing

JOY GROUP

The JOY group was formed after a series of Alpha Courses (2010 - 2012). It meets once a month, usually on the last Monday in the month. It's a life/faith group and is held from 7.30pm - 9.30pm on Bamford Mews. For those able/wishing to, there is the option of meeting at the Dolce Vita for pizza/pasta at 6.30pm. We have a varied programme of topics and activities to help us in our Christian journey.

Over the years we have used David Suchet reading the New Testament, watched a DVD of John's Gospel and considered many of Paul's letters. In our last session we looked at "the Gospel according to peanuts"

We begin and end in prayer. There are currently 8 members attending. All are welcome to share.

"These things I have spoken to you, thhat my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete." (John 15:11)

STILLNESS AND SHARING

This is a Christian Meditation group that meets in the afternoon on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 2.15pm. We share news over coffee on arrival and the session itself is from 2.30pm - 3.30pm. Currently we have 11 'members' bur numbers vary each session.

We have a different focus each time (e.g. peace, love, light) Whoever is leading will provide music, images and words that prepare us for a time of stillness. The 'science' says that when we sit togethe rin stillness for a period of 15-20 mins, then the brain waves of each person develop the same pattern. The result is a deep peace, our busy minds have slowed down and we rest in God.

We then read a short passage on the topic, whuch may be from the Bible or from different Christian & spiritual writers. We read slowly , may be 5 times and then share what words/ideas have resonated with us. We close in prayer, spoken or silent.
